Inspired by ancient African pottery, this piece stands 10.5 inches tall on a narrow base. In ancient times, the narrow base made it easy to “plant” the vessel into sand to hold it in place and keep contents cool. The unglazed clay has a beautiful black patina with flashes of color and gray spots created by the unique pit-firing process; the pot was buried in sawdust and wood chips and smoldered for days. The top half is encircled with throwing rings.
