Decorative Horsehair Pair
These “twin” vases will be a conversation starter and a treat for the eye! They are created according to an ancient Native American tradition. Warriors honored their horses by using single strands of their tail-hair to etch the black lines into their pottery. One by one, the hairs are applied to the pottery as soon as it is pulled from a 1200-degree fire. The heat instantly carbonizes the horsehair in random squiggle patterns, creating inky lines and smoky surfaces. Because many pieces don’t survive the thermal shock of this process, these pots are less common and thus more valuable. No two pots are the same, and the line quality is determined by the particular hair used. While they are a stunning joy for the eyes, these pieces are not water-tight, and will not function as flower vases; please use for decorative purposes only. Each vase in this set measures 7 inches tall and 3.25 inches wide.
